Practice Makes Perfect

As a math tutor, I can't emphasise enough the importance of practice in achieving perfection. During a recent session with one of my mature students who has been away from the maths classroom for some time, we tackled the "bus stop method." I had a little confession to make: back when I was training to become a teacher, I had to relearn the bus stop method myself because I hadn't used it in three years.

You see, the bus stop method is a fundamental skill in math, and just like any other skill, without practice, it can slip away from memory. That's why I place a strong emphasis on iterative work during our sessions. This way, we not only learn new information but also ensure we retain the knowledge we've acquired along the way. It's all about building a strong foundation and keeping those math skills sharp and ready for action!
